Porto Polytechnic – School of Engineering (Portugal)

(IPP- ISEP) Since 1852, ISEP has been a pioneer Institution in teaching and researching in engineering. Integrated at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, the ISEP is a school of reference in Portugal and aims to contribute to sustainable human development through the creation and knowledge transfer. We believe in continuous co-operation and best practice statement of teaching and working. Alongside renowned institutions like MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Chalmers University of Technology or the University of Sydney have integrated the Consortium CDIO (Conceive – Design – Implement-Operate), where we work with enthusiasm to reformulate the teaching and learning methods in engineering, promoting scientific and technical excellence.

The academic formation offered by ISEP is geared towards professional development and employability. Centered on teamwork, in students motivated and entrepreneurs, promotes the development of logical reasoning, creativity and intellectual freedom, to ensure that graduates are able to face any challenge. They are recognized by employers by ease of integration and ability to overcome. These factors help to explain the high rates of employability.

Located in a campus with 50 000m2 is organized within a structure of departments and several student facilities: library, restaurant, canteen, bar, medical and counseling services, health club, travel agency and a congress center. Attended by more than 6000 students, ISEP lectures eleven first cycle engineering degrees: civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering, computer science engineering, electrical and computing engineering, power systems engineering, chemical engineering, instrumentation and metrology engineering, computing and medical instrumentation engineering systems engineering; eleven master degrees as well as varying degrees of expertise in different areas of engineering. The whole formative offer is designed in a logical of applied knowledge, which favors approaches "hands on" – learning by doing – to better respond to the demands of a knowledge society and creatively.

The ISEP houses nine research groups CIDEM: Research and Development Centre of Mechanical Engineering, CIETI: Innovation Centre in Engineering and Industrial Technology, CISTER: Investigation Centre in Reliable and Real-time Systems, GECAD: Investigation Group in Knowledge Engineering and Support to Decision, GICEC: Investigation Group and Consulting and Innovation in Civil Engineering, GILT: Graphics, Interaction & Learning Technologies, GRAQ-CEQUP-REQUIMTE: Chemical Reaction and Analysis Group, LSA: Autonomous Systems Laboratory and CMUP/LEMA: Mathematics Engineering Laboratory.

Our cooperation policy favors the integration in major consortia or research projects in Europe and worldwide.
